Design a rice cooker for sleep deprived parents of an infant.
Kangariice is a bar-top rice cooker designed to reduce cognitive load when making rice. Parents need only add washed rice to the kanga’s pouch and press the start switch. Kangariice will measure the rice with its internal scale and add water appropriately from its reservoir before cooking the rice. Kangariice comes with their own rice spoon and can hold their AC power tail for easy storage.
What is it like to be a sleep deprived parent?
Before jumping into ideation, I need to figure out what it means to be a sleep deprived parent. How are they feeling? What is on their mind? What are their priorities?
What will it do?
OK sweet, now I’ll throw out 30 ideas to get started. No rules, anything goes.
We want the rice cooker to be
easier to use than existing rice cookers.
What will it look like?
Let’s take form inspiration from Japanese mascots! They are fun and expressive characters.
Now let’s iterate on the form of our rice cooker with these aesthetics and our desired functionality.
Alright this is a little creepy. A kangaroo is a good metaphor for the water and rice interactions, but the character design is off. One more iteration to clean this up and we’ll call it.
Now more mascotly, Kangariice is the Keurig of rice cookers. Simply add rice to the pouch and press start. When they’re thirsty, just pour some water in their mouth!
